I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Another busy week as we round off the first month of the new year. Police have collated a lot of good results that I would like you update you with.
Chris Field was arrested by Police after stealing over £500 worth of stock from Boots, Stevenage Town Centre. He tried to run, but we were faster, catching him, which resulted in his arrest, charge, and remand to court whereby he was found guilty of three counts of theft. He now has to pay £154.00 in fees/costs, has been placed on a rehabilitation course and has now been excluded from Boots.
Daryl Fisher has been arrested by Police for six counts of theft. These thefts had taken place all across Stevenage with one also being Boots - Stevenage Town Centre. He was charged, remanded and found guilty in court and was ordered to pay £382.97 in fees/costs.
A male was arrested at 9 Yards for theft from a shop after stealing £262.00 worth of clothes from NEXT. The time from the theft taking place to the suspects arrest was four minutes. This quick arrest has allowed the suspect to be charged.
Another male was arrested for two counts of theft and vehicle interference after coming to Police attention and showing as wanted. Upon a search of the male, a small quantity of heroin was was found on his person, whereby he was arrested for possession of class A. He has been charged with all of these offences.
A female has been arrested for shoplifting at Starbucks - Stevenage Town Centre. She was quickly arrested for theft and charged for the offence.
Operation Scootherts has got another four E-scooters of the streets this week as a part of an on-going effort to tackle anti-social riding on public roads and footpaths. All were taken away and crushed. I also wanted to clear up the rumours that people are able to get their E-scooters back. Whenever Police take an E-scooter or an E-bike off the streets, there crushed and cannot be returned. This is to prevent repeat offending.
Police had attended 9 yards on Tuesday and had spotted three people driving whilst using their mobile phones. They were all reported for the offences after being given tickets and are due to appear in court. More of these to come.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
