Rogerstone & Graig Weekly Round-Up |
||
|
Dear residents,
We hope you have had a great week. I am writing to provide you with an update on what the Bettws Neighbourhood Policing team has been doing in the areas of Rogerstone and Graig.
✅ New repair café event Our PCSOs also attended the new Repair Café at TyDu Hall at the Welfare Grounds. This is a monthly pop-up event where people can bring household items and get them fixed for free. Whilst PCSOs were there, they discussed local issues in the community, signed people up to the new Neighbourhood Alerts system and provided crime prevention advice. The team look forward to coming to the next event on Saturday 21st February.
✅ Prolific shoplifter arrested Our officers were able to locate and arrest a wanted person for multiple shoplifting offences in Rogerstone. They have since been charged and remanded.
✅ Operation Atal Bettws Neighbourhood Policing team are working closely with GoSafe and South Wales Fire & Rescue Service to reduce speeding in the area. Operation Atal is a speeding operation that involves identifying drivers travelling over the speed limit before officers stop the vehicle. Drivers are then given the choice between a speed education talk or points and a fine. This operation was conducted along Tregwilym Road, Rogerstone in the 20mph zone as this is an area identified as a speeding hotspot. As a result: If you have any general enquiries around speeding, you can contact GoSafe by visiting their website.
✅ Stolen vehicle recovered PCSOs received reports of a suspicious vehicle being abandoned in Rogerstone. When it was located, the vehicle was insecure and damaged. Checks then showed it was stolen. The vehicle has since been recovered, the owner has now been informed and will be reunited with the vehicle. Thank you to members of the community who reported, your information helps us tackle these issues.
✅ School patrols We have been made aware of on-going issues with anti-social behaviour from pupils of Bassaleg High School to nearby residents. Our team are conducting patrols at school leaving teams where possible to deter this issue. The school has been contacted and made aware. Any pupils identified through enquiries will be spoken to about this behaviour and dealt with accordingly.
✅ Walkabout with housing PCSOs conducted a walkabout with the Hedyn housing manager to visit residents, focus on hotspot areas and discuss local issues. It was great to speak to people about issues in the community and we hope you feel reassured by the patrols and advice provided. If you did not manage to speak with us but want to raise an issue, you can email NewportWestNPT@gwent.police.uk or contact 101.
As always, thank you for your continued support and I hope you enjoy the rest of the week.
