The Slough Healthy Schools Award recognises schools that demonstrate a whole-school commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of both pupils and staff. Through a variety of initiatives, practices, and policies, the programme supports schools to build on existing strengths, reduce vulnerabilities, and address inequalities. By focusing on prevention, early intervention, and targeted support, the award helps promote positive outcomes for children and young people. The award launched last week at Langley Academy Primary with Councillor Ishrat Shah, lead member for public health, wellbeing and equalities meeting pupils from years three, four, five and six, as well as PE lead, Mr Geer, and Headteacher Mrs Bowen. The programme supports schools in evaluating their strengths, identifying areas for improvement, and progressing towards Healthy Schools Status using the national School Health Check framework. Registration is now live and schools can register at: Schools | Healthy Schools Mrs Bowen, The Langley Academy Primary Headteacher, said: “At The Langley Academy Primary (TLAP), we have always focused on the holistic development of our children. We have strived to achieve this by reinforcing healthy eating, encouraging physical activity, and empowering our pupils to make informed choices, we help them develop healthy bodies and minds. At times, we have felt that we were on this journey alone. That is why we are proud to be taking part in the Healthy Schools Initiative, recognising the commitment and hard work of both our children and staff in promoting lifelong wellbeing.” Councillor Ishrat Shah, lead member for public health, wellbeing and equalities said: “It is my pleasure to have to been here today launching the Healthy Schools Award, meeting children and staff, and highlighting the importance of a whole‑school approach to physical, emotional, mental health and wellbeing. It has been fantastic to hear about all the achievements of the pupils and the staff’s dedication to a culture of active minds, and healthy bodies.”
