Priority 1 To promote safety during the night time economy in the City Centre
YOU SAID: -You want to enjoy the Leicester City Centre nightlife and feel safe whilst doing so. You want to ensure that licensed premises our operating in accordance with their license. You want to know what we our doing to tackle violence against women and girls.
*JANUARY UPDATE* -During this month we have continued with our deployments of Operation Oversee. During this operation we conducted visits at licensed premises including bars, clubs, shops, pubs and other licensed venues. We also have a mobile 'police station' that is deployed and staffed in the City Centre offering advice around a safe night out including anti-spiking, looking out for friends, safe routes home and the Ask Angela campaign. -We have deployed officers each Friday and Saturday evening and into the night as part of Project Vigilant. During these deployments we look for and tackle violence against women and girls with a strong focus on prevention and pre-cursor signs. A recent success of this was 2 male perpetrators who were arrested after making sexualised comments and gestures to young females in the City Centre.
Priority 2 To tackle cycle crime and cycle related ASB in the City Centre
YOU SAID: -You want to feel safe coming to the City Centre and leaving you bike locked up. You don’t want to be bothered by E-bikes or E-scooters driving through the City Centre.
*JANUARY UPDATE* -We have been holding Bike Marking events in the City Centre also supported by Dr Bike who assist with free health checks on vehicles. At the events, bikes will be marked with a unique code and added to the national Bike Register database, making it easier for police to reunite stolen bikes with their owners. It can also act as a deterrent to would-be thieves as the bike is permanently marked, making it more difficult to sell. Research suggests cyclists are 83% more likely to have their bike stolen if it is not Bike Register marked. -Operation Pedalfast deployments continue to tackle illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters and the associated anti-social behaviours these vehicle's cause. We have now seized a combined total of 645 of these vehicles and removed them from circulation. Another success of this operation is a recent stop on a rider with illegal e-bike resulted in him being found in possession of a substantial amount of drug's and arrested for possession with intent to supply.
Priority 3 To tackle anti-social behaviour in the area of Granby Street, Belvior Street and Town Hall Square
YOU SAID: -You want to enjoy the Town Hall Square, Granby Street, Belvior and surrounding area but ASB caused by people and vehicles prevents this,
*JANUARY UPDATE* -We have had a significant uplift in patrols of this area following reports of anti-social behaviour, drug use and drug dealing. We have been working with local businesses to understand the scale of the problems they face and how to best support them whilst tackling the root causes of the issues. -We have deployed in this are on multiple operations including a drug dog deployment, Operation Pedalfast, a dedicated Operation to tackle vehicle related offences and ASB. -We have had some fantastic results including multiple suspects arrested for possession with intent to supply, large amounts of drugs recovered, individuals dealt with out of court for drug use, suspects arrested on warrants and recalls to prison and some safeguarding work for women and girls.
