Road Safety - COLYFORD |
||
|
Dear Resident,
You may be aware of the tragic collision that took place in Colyford that tragically led to a member of the community losing their life. Following this incident, members of the local community have raised road safety concerns throughout Colyford. Whilst the main road through Colyford is the A3052, we would like to remind people that it is still a 30mph speed limit.
It is a high risk area with a number of hazards such as: school busses and children, pinch points, blind driveways, roads without pavements, tram crossing etc.
You can expect to see more of a visible police presence in the area going forward with a focus on educating and enforcing road traffic offences.
One such incident happened on Monday 26th January 2026, an officer witnessed a driver tailgating the vehicle in front before suddenly overtaking in the centre of Colyford. The vehicle was stopped and spoken to. Whilst conducting checks it transpired that the driver's license was expired. He was therefore reported for driving otherwise in accordance with a license.
Driving in an aggressive manner saves little to no time but greatly increases the risk of serious harm to yourself and those around you. It is not worth seriously injuring yourself or someone else just to save a few seconds. If you do decide to take those risks and drive aggressively.. at least make sure your documents are in order.
