Commercial Vehicle Operation. |
||
|
Good afternoon, Today marks the start of a two week national Commercial Vehicle Operation 🚚 Commercial vehicles make up a significant proportion of traffic on North Yorkshire’s 6000 miles of roads, and when they are used inappropriately or illegally, they can pose a serious risk. We continue to see collisions and incidents involving commercial vehicles that lead to life changing injuries and, in some cases, fatalities. Our aim for the next two weeks is to have an increased focus on working closely with drivers and the wider industry to raise standards and keep everyone safe. This will involve a balanced approach of education and where necessary, enforcement. Officers will be working with partner agencies across the North of England at various sites to maximise engagement with the industry. The images below are from a checkpoint which is set up today (Monday 26 January 2026) by the A1(m). Sadly, across the UK we have recently seen several fatal collisions caused by insecure loads—often during unloading. A key focus of this operation will be load security. We urge drivers, owners, and operators to take every possible step to ensure loads are properly secured. Guidance is available on the government website by searching “Load Security.”
