I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti-social behaviour – general, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. PCSO Clarke-Hill from Ely Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), in partnership with Crime Stoppers and Cardiff Council, have launched a new initiative in the area aimed at encouraging the community to report incidents and concerns within the Plymouth Wood Road & Mill Road area of Ely, Cardiff. Officers from Ely NPT recognise that incidents in this area are often under-reported. As part of this initiative, a designated ‘Crime Stoppers Zone’ has been introduced to provide reassurance and enable members of the community to report information anonymously, without fear of repercussions.
In October 2025, Ely NPT conducted a bespoke survey via South Wales Listens for the local community to better understand how residents feel about safety and wellbeing in their immediate area. By gathering honest feedback from those who live and work locally, the team aimed to build a clear, evidence-based picture of community concerns.
The results will play a vital role in shaping decisions around the need for increased police presence and the potential installation of a permanent CCTV, helping us ensure that local resources are targeted where they are most needed to support a safe, more confident community.
The results of the survey showed that majority of the community ‘strongly agreed’ that they feel safe to walk/exercise/drive in the immediate vicinity of their home/work, whilst 88% of local residents surveyed felt installation of CCTV covering ‘Birdies Lane’ would be of benefit to the community.
In addition, Ely Neighbourhood Policing Team has secured funding for the deployment of a mobile CCTV unit, which is scheduled to be installed in the coming weeks. The mobile CCTV will assist in gathering vital evidence and data, helping to support the case for the installation of permanent CCTV in the area in the near future.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: civil injunctions. criminal behaviour orders. public spaces protection orders. community protection notices. dispersal powers. closure powers. ASB Case review
Anti-social behaviour covers a wide range of unacceptable activity that causes harm to an individual, to their community or to their environment. Examples of anti-social behaviour include: · Nuisance, rowdy or inconsiderate neighbours · Vandalism, graffiti, and flyposting · Street drinking · Environmental damage including littering, dumping of rubbish and abandonment of cars · Prostitution related activity · Fireworks misuse · Inconsiderate or inappropriate use of vehicles If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.south-wales.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
