Friday 23rd January 2026 Sussex Alerts - Eastbourne Police
Working together to address your concerns
Earlier this week, local Councils contacted Police following reports of an abandoned vehicle on the highway.
After exhausting their enquiries, the Council liaised with local policing teams to carry out further checks, which confirmed residents’ and the Council’s concerns that the vehicle was untaxed and abandoned.
As a result, local PCSOs used powers granted by the DVLA to remove it.
Abandoned vehicles can cause a number of issues locally, from obstructing roads and disrupting traffic to creating hazards for pedestrians.
Find out more about what you can do, and who to contact to report such issues in your community online here.
Keeping residents safe from fraud
Earlier this week, officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team hosted a scam and fraud awareness session for residents of Riverbourne House in Seaside.
Residents shared their experiences of recent scams; from email and text attempts to more sophisticated frauds like celebrity endorsed bitcoin schemes and fake cash competitions.
Officers handed out copies of ‘The Little Book of Big Scams’ and offered advice, tips, and tools to help residents protect themselves — all over a very welcomed hot cup of tea following an earlier rainy start to their shift!
Frauds and scams are forever evolving, and it pays to stay up-to-date, visit our website here or visit Report Fraud online here (previously Action Fraud) for the latest advice and tools to keep you safe.

Eastbourne burglar charged
An Eastbourne man has been remanded in custody after being charged with a number of burglary related offences in the Eastbourne area.
The Sussex Police investigation relates to three residential burglaries that occurred on 26 October last year, before the same man was linked to a business burglary at an Eastbourne hotel on 13 January 2026.
Following fast paced enquiries by the East Sussex Burglary Team, a suspect was arrested just 5 hours after the hotel was targeted, where he was found in possession of numerous stolen goods that were quickly re-united with their thankful owners.
The male, Christopher Beirne, 48, of Compton Street, Eastbourne has now been charged with 4 burglary related offences, one of residential burglary, two of attempted burglary and one of business burglary.
Beirne appeared before Brighton and Hove Magistrates Court on January 14, where he was remanded in custody, and will next appear before Lewes Crown Court on 2 February.
