Burglary Prevention: Let’s Keep Our Community Safe Together |
||
|
Burglary doesn’t just impact people financially - it affects confidence, wellbeing, and the sense of safety in our neighbourhoods. The good news is that a few simple steps, taken together as a community, can make a real difference. Here are some practical ways we can all help protect our homes and each other:
Look After Your Home Always lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home or just popping out. Make sure your home looks occupied - use timers on lights, keep curtains closed at night, and avoid leaving spare keys outside.
Keep Valuables Out of View Keep keys, wallets, laptops, and other valuables away from windows and doors. Don’t leave packaging from expensive items outside where it can be seen.
Secure Sheds, Garages & Outdoor Areas Lock sheds and garages - tools can be used to gain entry to your home. Make sure side gates are closed and secured.
Stay Connected with Your Neighbours A strong community is one of the best deterrents to crime. Check in with neighbours, especially if they live alone or are away. Report anything unusual or suspicious - trust your instincts. Consider joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch group to improve communication and awareness.
Be Careful Online Avoid posting holiday plans or photos while you’re away. Review your privacy settings on social media to control who sees your content. If you’d like personalised crime‑prevention advice, or if you’ve been affected by burglary, you can speak to your local neighbourhood policing team. By looking out for our homes - and for each other - we can make our community a safer place for everyone.
