Pedal Bike theft and Phone Snatches |
||
|
Hi Everyone
Its about time we put some more advice out into the world
Today's topics are Pedal Bike theft and Phone Snatches crime prevention as both common around Canning Town
We're going to start by giving you some advice about how best to protect your bike from theft
Use a good Quality lock that is proportionate to your bikes value - High Quality bikes will have a very good resale which is why they are targeted. People will also steal quick release wheels and even saddles to try and sell. You can check websites like soldsecure.com highly rated D-locks, chains and Strap locks. These items are Tested by the Sold secure team and only those they recommend will appear on the website
Store in a Garage or Substantial locked shed, or a strong ground anchor - There a few reasons for this. Firstly an out of site pedal cycle is exactly that. Even when stored inside, You should still chain your cycle to the ground or a wall. Ground and wall anchors are a great way of putting of anyone who has broken into your shed. A good few sheds are easy to break into, and we highly recommend a high quality lock. Again sites like soldsecure.com advise on locks and anchors
Record and Register the details of your bike, such as the frame number and take out cycle insurance - Each year the police recover many cycles but we are unable to return them or prosecute offenders as the owner of the bike cannot be traced. Registering your bike will increase the amount of bikes returned to owners and increase prosecutions. Having insurance on your bike will cover you for the theft of the bike and help pay towards a new one. Bike insurance is generally very affordable and really worth having.
Phone theft and snatches (A real plague on daily living)
Protect your phone - Never leave your phone unattended or out of sight. When your done with your phone, place it in a safe place, out of sight of others around you. When you buy a new phone, always obtain and write down your phones IMEI number. You can do a few ways, By either looking at the back of the box your phone came in or by texting #06#. IMEI Numbers are very important if your phone is stolen as they will help the police identify your phone if its ever found on someone you shouldn't. Your phone will also have built in security such as SIM Locking and PIN locking.
Be aware of your surroundings - Some way think, that is part of common sense, but phones have changed how we navigate. We are looking down at our phones now more than ever. If your looking down then your not looking out ahead of you, or even taking in your surroundings. Phones snatches a look for these people, they look for those absorbed by there phones as they will never see the thief coming until its too late. A lot of them use Very fast modified electric bike. These bikes are quiet which allows these people to get close without you noticing. So please be aware of your surroundings!
Tracking devices and Records - You can register your phones details on to accredited mobile phone datebases which can help police to identify you as the rightful owner. Along side this, Why not consider a tracking application on your smart phone. This can help the police trace your phone
As said above, Please be AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Stay Safe, Stay Aware and Stay Alert
