Dear Resident A resident in St Georges was recently the victim of a burglary, this happened during the day, they were in the house at the time of the incident, they were upstairs and the perpetrators entered the house and stole items from downstairs. The back door was unlocked at the time. This is a kindly reminder to keep your doors locked even if you are in your premises and its during the daytime. Below are some helpful tips on home security; Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you’re only going out for a few minutes!Double-lock any doorMake sure that any valuables are out of sight – this includes leaving packaging from outside of your houseKeep handbags away from the letterbox or cat flap and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could hook keys or valuables through even a small openingNever leave car documents or ID in obvious places such as kitchens or hallwaysIn the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights onIf you’re out all day, then it’s advisable to use a timer device to automatically turn lights and a radio on at nightSet your burglar alarmMake sure the side gate is lockedLock your shed or garageLock your bike inside a secure shed or garage, to a robust fitting bolted to the ground or wall, like a ground anchorGoing away?
