Local Priorities Farming equipment thefts Message |
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Farming equipment thefts, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A quad bike has been stolen in the early hours of the morning from Bolton By Bowland, and this follows on from two quads having being stolen from Brackenbottom near Horton in Ribblesdale earlier in the week (fortunately due to a tracker, both bikes were located and have been returned) Whilst last nights bike was just over the border, it is a reminder that there is a significant increase in the theft of quad bikes, and the thieves are making huge efforts to get to these bikes to steal. Please report any suspicious circumstances, consider trackers and the more security devices, the better. It is likely that these thefts are all linked and involve criminals scoping out remote areas during the daytime. Please report suspicious circumstances to the police, get vehicle registration plates and help us catch those responsible. Rural crime has no set definition but can be very broadly classified as any crime and anti-social behaviour occurring in rural areas. It is often linked to Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) who target and exploit rural communities across a range of crime types, for example organised plant theft, livestock theft, burglaries targeting firearms, poaching and hare coursing.
The NPCC (National Police Chiefs Council) has developed a Rural Affairs Strategy which sets out police priorities in this area:
