Keeping you updated - Crewe Police - Spiking |

Good afternoon,
We met a local woman who had been on a first date at a local pub in Crewe, they were having a great time until the returned from the toilets, and then things seemed a bit “off.” She couldn’t put her finger on it, but the atmosphere had changed. Her date told her to drink up and he asked her to go back to his place. They finished their drinks, and they took up a slow walk up the road. She told us that the rest was a blur.
She told us that she woke up the next morning with no relocation of what had happened from leaving the pub the night before. She said that she hadn’t had much to drink, and didn’t usually feel this way after drinking alcohol. Local Officers went out to review CCTV from the pub and local area, we saw the pair sitting at the bar, laughing and having a great time. We then saw her get up to go to the toilets, not long after he looked around and slipped something into her drink, nobody around was looking in that direction. He lent in and told her to drink up, she did and they left not long after.
We also then reviewed the footage just outside of the pub from a nearby shop, we saw the pair get into a taxi, and then the drove off. Thankfully through the taxi booking details for his home address, we were able to trace the male involved. The female involved has been supported following this incident.
Valentines Day is just around the corner, and lots of people will be arranging dates with someone that they have never met before, and some will go on a date with someone that they have dated for a while. Spiking is never the Victim’s fault, and we want our local community to feel empowered that they can reduce the chances of their drink getting spiked or know what to do if they do get spiked.
At Crewe Helpdesk from the 20/01/2025 (today), we will have a large roll of drinks covers if you wish to come and collect one. These will be first come, first served and are single use drink covers, but we have also recently offered the free reusable rubber drinks bottle toppers too on another Facebook post (you may have collected one of those from us!)
These foil stickers are great to help to protect your drink, and can pierced with a straw for use or peeled back when enjoying your drink. We wish that we didn’t have to advertise these drink covers, but spiking does happen and prevention is better than someone else in our community becoming a Victim.
Remember that it’s sensible not to accept a drink from a stranger or leave your drink unattended. But it’s important to mention that sometimes people get spiked by people they know and trust too. So please cover your drink and take your drink with you where possible.
