RE: Robbery Crime Prevention Advice |
||
|
Dear Wandsworth Common community,
As we move into the coming months, we traditionally see a seasonal increase in robbery offences involving mobile phones, with both victims and suspects often being of school age. These incidents frequently take place on journeys to and from school, on buses and/or trains, in parks, or in public areas where young people gather. We are therefore reminding parents and carers of some simple steps that can help protect your child and their property and assist police if a phone is lost or stolen.
Register your child’s mobile phone on Immobilise.com By registering a phone’s make, model, and unique IMEI number, police can quickly identify and return recovered devices to their rightful owners. Registered phones are also harder to sell on, making them less attractive to offenders.
Why this matters during periods of increased robbery risk Helps police trace and return phones stolen during robberies Supports investigations where stolen property is recovered and can assist police in securing convictions at court Acts as a deterrent to theft and robbery Reduces stress and uncertainty for families if a device goes missing
Additional safety advice for young people Encourage children to keep phones out of sight when not in use Avoid using phones openly in busy or unfamiliar areas Stay aware of surroundings, especially when walking alone or sat alone on the top deck of a bus If approached or threatened, personal safety is more important than property Report any suspicious activity to police immediately via 101 or, in an emergency, 999
How to register with Immobilise.com Taking a few minutes to register your child’s mobile phone can make a real difference, particularly during periods when robbery offences increase.
Stay safe,
Biren.
