Weekly Update! |
||||||
Good evening Resident,
With the chaotic weather going from severe snow to dismal rain, we have still been out trying to cheer up the residents of Wolverhampton this dull week. It's been a good week for arrests and community engagement in general, so here we go with your weekly update!
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – A whopping 9 arrests were made this week by officers from not only the City Centre team but also the Priority Crime Team. The city centre team arrested 5 individuals this week for a variety of offences including, failing to appear at court, a recall to prison, rape and two serious assaults. A significant arrest was made by the outer sector officers who took a male into custody who was subsequently charged with 53 shoplifting offences! Finally, three individuals were arrested in the early hours of the morning after specialist officers from the Priority Crime Team along with the city centres assistance carried out a warrant on a property in the city centre. Upon breaching the property a large cultivation of cannabis plants was discovered including a BB gun inside a safe. The three males aged 32, 36, and 58 have since been released on police bail as investigations continue.
Community Engagement – A quiet week for community engagement for our city centre PCSOs and we think that is wholly down to the weather. First off our PCSOs visited the Lloyds Bank inside the Mander Centre for a small crime prevention stand where we were approached by around 7 people for a quick chat. On Friday both myself and Inspector Sophie Clement headed to the Wolverhampton college campus in Bilston for a meeting with regards to our upcoming Recruitment event on their open day. If you or anyone you know is heading to the open day on Wednesday 21st January, please feel free to come and have a chat about careers, as were hoping to having various departments of the police there including, PCSOs, Offender management, Drones etc!
On Friday afternoon you may have seen a few of us strutting our stuff in the Mander Centre having some photos taken for new promotional material that should be appearing on the electronic information boards in the city soon, so keep an eye out for them. Lastly, on Sunday afternoon our PCSOs headed to Art Gallery for a crime prevention event. Even though we spoke to a few people the event did sadly have to be cut short due to the increasing custom within the cafe and we did not feel it fair that customers were turning away because we were occupying one of the tables. A big thank you to those who did come and have a chat with us, its always nice to see new and returning faces!
Guardian Patrols – The usual guardian patrols went by without a hitch this week with nothing of any note to report. Servator deployments were back out in the city towards the end of last week and even their patrols were unusually quiet. Football officers were busy as usual on hand to oversee the fantastic result for Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend as they hosted Newcastle. A tough test that had everyone leaving with a smile on their face securing another valuable point!
Night-Time Economy – A very quiet NTE this week with nothing going on in the city centre, our officers were on hand to locate a missing person who was passed on to the Response team and taken home. Officers were then quick to assist Response once again with a male who failed to stop his vehicle when requested, the male eventually vacated his vehicle and was detained.
Other News - A community protection warning has been issued to a female on the city centre due to her behaviour and persistent begging. This warning will last for the next twelve months unless her behaviour continues to be an issue.
