Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding for week starting 12/01: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? - High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas - On 16/01, officers conducted a beat engagement at Thurmaston retail park. - On 15/01, PCSO 6024 held a Beat Surgery in Syston Town Square. Thank you to everyone who came along to speak with us and share concerns about local issues. - On 14/01, PCSO 6098 conducted her regular beat surgery at East Goscote library, engaging with local residents about their concerns and issues. - On 14/01, PCSO 6024 and 6098 had the opportunity to visit Queniborough C.E. Primary School. The officers spent time speaking with the children about the role of a Police Community Support Officer and how we help keep our communities safe. The pupils also got the chance to see our police car up close and explore some of the uniform and equipment we use every day. -Now the nights are getting darker the beat team have been conducting patrols around rural areas of the beat later at night. As well as making your home look occupied, there are some quick and easy steps you can take to prevent opportunistic thieves from entering your home. We are doing everything we can to keep you safe. Some things you can do are: 🚪 Keep doors and windows locked and take the key out of the lock. 🔒 Prevent easy access to your home with locked gates or fencing. 🪟 Move/remove items which can provide easier access to windows, such as bins and garden furniture. 🪜 Burglars are known to use ladders to access upper windows to avoid intruder alarm sensors on the lower floors of properties. Keep ladders out of sight and ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are locked.
This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities We have received reports of vehicles committing ASB, including car cruising, off-road biking, and misuse of e-scooters. Officers have carried out enforcement under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act and continue to monitor hotspot locations. Work is underway with local councils and landowners to explore longer-term solutions, including signage and environmental measures to deter offending.
Reports of residential burglaries have been received in the NL61 area. Officers have increased overnight patrols and are working closely with CID to progress investigations. Crime prevention advice has been circulated to residents, and engagement with Neighbourhood Watch groups continues to help reduce risk and reassure the community.
There has been an increase in reports of theft from vehicles across the NL61 area. Officers are conducting targeted patrols in hotspot locations and sharing crime prevention advice with residents. Investigations are ongoing to identify offenders, and intelligence is being gathered to support enforcement activity.
Upcoming Neighbourhood Consultations Tue 10 February 2026 - 11:00AM - 12:00PM at Syston Town Square Neighbourhood consultations are a good opportunity to discuss your neighbourhood concerns and meet your local policing team. Please come along and speak to us. I hope you all have a lovely week, have fun and keep safe! Kind Regards, Beat 61 Neighbourhood Team | ||
