Fake Bank Notes |
||
|
Hello all
We've received a couple of reports whereby Fake/Counterfeit Scottish bank notes have been used to purchase items from some shops on The Marsh. Please be extra vigilant when it comes to bank notes especially the higher denomination ones and in this particular case, Scottish notes. Not only have the offenders used the notes to purchase relatively low cost items (so that they get maximum change back which is ‘real’ money) they have tricked staff into changing the notes up whilst the tills have been open so please be careful and if your gut feeling is that the note isn't genuine even after you've done your normal checks, decline it and ask for alternative payment. As always if you suspect that a crime is taking place or has done, please ring 999 or submit an online report via the Kent Police website if it's not an emergency.
The following is some advice from the National Crime Agency Fake Scottish banknotesThe issue of counterfeit Scottish banknotes, particularly £20 and £50 polymer notes, is a persistent concern for retailers. The National Crime Agency (NCA) has provided updated advice on how to check these notes for authenticity. Key security features to look for include: Holographic Foil: Genuine notes have a reflective hologram that shifts when tilted. Counterfeit versions often have static or poorly replicated holograms. Colour-Changing Map: The map of Scotland changes colour from purple to gold when tilted. Counterfeit versions often miss this feature. Moving Rings: Genuine notes have moving rings across the map, which fake notes lack. Raised Print: Genuine notes feature raised print on the bank’s name and other areas. If the note feels too smooth, it could be a fake. Retailers are advised to familiarize themselves with these security features and to compare suspect notes with real ones if in doubt. If a counterfeit note is suspected, it should be reported to the police along with any supporting evidence, such as CCTV footage.
Thank you Steve. | ||
