I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We are currently looking into a couple of burglaries in Hayes Town and have been increasing our patrols in the area. Could you please share the following with as many people as possible:
I would encourage all residents and businesses to check www.met.police.uk/burglary for crime prevention advice on how to reduce the chances of becoming a victim.
One of the best ways of putting off burglars is by installing a Burglar alarm, this does not have to be expensive as they have come down in price in recent years. The vast majority of burglaries across London take place on properties without alarms.
The properties that are more vulnerable are those where there is a shared driveway or access between the properties that lead to the rear garden, in these situations we recommend neighbours club together and install a gate as far forward between the properties as possible.
Lastly we are keen to improve our communication with residents and the flow of information. We have a new communication system called Met Engage which will allow us in the event of a burglary to get CCTV as quickly as possible and identify the offenders. If anyone would like to be added please email me Antony.gray@Met.Police.uk the following information:
1. First Name/Surname 2. Address 3. Postcode 4. Email 5. Contact number
Kind Regards, Antony Gray 7614WA
If you see anyone committing a crime or anyone jumping over fences or trying to break into houses please always call 999 at the time.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
