UPDATE | Arrest in Plymouth sexual assault investigation

Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in Plymouth have made an arrest.

Police were called around 4am on Saturday 10 January, following a report of a woman having been sexually assaulted in the Mutley Plain area of the city.

Officers attended and a cordon was put in place.

A man in his 20s from the city was arrested on suspicion of rape yesterday, Thursday 15 January. He is currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Katy Deer said: “We have arrested a male in connection with this incident and he is currently in custody assisting with our investigation.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and I would like to thank the local community for their support whilst we have carried out our enquiries over the past few days.

“We have specialist officers in place to continue to provide support to the victim.”
