Local Priorities Catapults Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Catapults, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Officers from Ashford Community Safety Unit have followed up on reports over the last few days, relating to catapults being used in the Tenterden area by youths. Through enquiries, CCTV and descriptions provided by members of the public and the use of the Police Athena system, we have been able to identify one of the persons suspected to have been involved and can now move towards education and enforcement regarding future actions.

Whilst I know this may not be directly in your area, those involved often travel between local towns and villages and shows the positive action Kent Police are taking regarding this issue. It should highlight the importance of reporting catapult crime to Kent Police and providing CCTV/photographic evidence where possible. It is through persistent reporting on this occasion from members of the public, descriptions being passed and photographs shared, that has assisted in building a better picture and giving us the best opportunity to identify those involved. We can from this point look to engage with schools, parents and other partner agencies as well as with those directly involved to put a stop to the anti-social behaviour and crime associated with their catapult use.
