New policing priorities for your area |

Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) across Stevenage have now set their policing priorities for the first few months of 2026. These are the issues that residents have said were causing them the most concern.
NPTs work alongside partner agencies, including Stevenage Borough Council to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour, theft, speeding and drug-related crime. They also support response officers and detective teams where required, with warrants and drug operations.
Central Stevenage
Previous Priority - Anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the town centre Actions: The Safer Town Centre and Winter of Action initiatives, along with Operation Hotspot have seen increased high visibility and plain clothed patrols in Stevenage town centre. This has resulted in numerous arrests for shoplifting and ASB and a drop in the number of reports of ASB in the town centre. Operation Scoot which tackles cycling and the illegal use of e-scooters in the town centre has continued and last year more than 67 scooters and e-bikes were seized as result of this work. The Neighbourhood team also continues to work with partner agencies, including Stevenage Borough Council, under Operation Urban across Stevenage, to provide support and intervention for those sleeping rough - many of whom appear to be targeted by drug dealers and often steal to feed their addictions.
Previous Priority – Speeding Actions taken Reports of speeding remain low and are currently falling, however surveys indicate this is still a concern for local residents. Teams will therefore continue to carry out targeted patrols as a result of feedback from the public and this work will be ongoing.
The following priorities have now been agreed for the next four months:
Neighbourhood Inspector for Stevenage, William Rogers-Overy said: “Our aim is to work closely with the community to address the issues that matter most locally, while continuing to respond to everyday policing needs, wider force priorities and any urgent situations that arise. “We truly appreciate everyone who shared their views through our priority setting survey and encourage residents to keep talking to us about what’s important in their neighbourhoods.” | ||
