We would like to take this opportunity to remind people of steps they can take to protect their property.
Avoid giving burglars this opportunity by following these simple crime prevention tips:
• If you have to keep your jewellery at home, invest in a safe and seriously consider installing a monitored alarm system. Your insurance company will provide advice as to which type and grade of safe and alarm is compliant with your home insurance policy. • Ensure that your home is fully secured, take this opportunity to look around your property and consider improving any areas of poor security. More information can be found at www.hampshire.police.uk • Keep an inventory of your jewellery. This can be done on line via Immobilise, for more information go to www.immobilise.com • Photograph your jewellery - Place your jewellery against a plain background with a ruler next to it to give an idea of size, this can then be uploaded to Immobilise • When leaving your home ensure doors and windows are locked, and you should use timer that switch lights on when you go out to make your home look occupied. • Book a free home security survey with the Blue Lamp Trust by calling 0300 777 0157 or by visiting www.bluelamptrust.org.uk • Be cautious about what you say on social media as you cannot be sure who will see your posts. For example, don’t indicate that you are going on holiday.

Burglary is a particularly invasive crime that can have a lasting impact on victims. If you have been a victim and need support and help, you should have been offered the services of Victim Support. You may have declined at the time, or not noticed the offer, but can refer yourself at any time by either calling 0808 168 9111 or visiting their website www.victimsupport.org.uk.
