While we can’t be everywhere, you can take steps to help protect your home. Most burglars look for easy opportunities, like unlocked doors or open windows. A few simple actions and smart thinking can make all the difference. Top Tips: Lock your doors when you’re at home and when you go out.Consider an alarm and/or CCTV for added security.Change Key Safe codes regularly to keep them secure.Keep windows shut or fit restrictors; good locks make all the difference.Use timer switches when you’re away to make your home look occupied.Hide valuables, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox.A few minutes spent securing your home can make all the difference. Drink or Drug Driving? It’s NEVER worth it. Christmas is over, but we’re still out there 24/7. If you drive under the influence, you’re risking lives, your licence, and your freedom. ✅ Plan ahead, book a taxi or arrange a lift. ❌ Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Your choice. Your responsibility. Don’t risk it. Despite additional resources being deployed over the Christmas and New Year period to tackle drink and drug driving, it is disappointing to report that seven individuals were taken into custody over the weekend for these offences. In total, 26 arrests were made, which included: Stalking / Harassment: 3 arrestsBreach of Bail Conditions / Recall to Prison: 3 arrestsAssaults / Affray / Drunk and Disorderly: 5 arrestsPossession or Distribution of Drugs: 2 arrestsRobbery: 1 arrestCriminal Damage: 1 arrest Officers remain committed to keeping communities safe and will continue to take robust action against those who choose to break the law.Building Security in Rural Areas Outbuildings and equipment can be vulnerable, especially if left unattended. Maintaining a good standard of security is essential to protect property and land. Key steps to keep your belongings safe: Lock equipment in secure buildings or storage boxes when not in use.Fit strong locks to sheds, garages, and outbuildings; ensure doors, windows, and frames are in good repair.Install visible burglar alarms and consider outside security lighting.Always lock vehicles and keep keys with you; keep expensive items and vehicles out of sight.Use hitch locks, wheel clamps, ground anchors for valuable machinery.Use locking posts for wide access points.Mark and register tools and equipment; keep an up-to-date inventory of valuables.Consider security bars or grilles for vulnerable windows and openings.Make sure gates cannot be lifted off or have bolts removed.Regularly check all security measures are working properly.For more advice, visit: Rural Crime Prevention | Sussex Police Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hand in hand with the Rural Crime Team and colleagues across borders to help protect rural communities. A person is currently assisting officers with enquiries regarding the incident at Rye Cemetery, where a car was driven across the grounds, causing damage to several headstones (reported on 29 December). Following a thorough and ongoing investigation, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter. We would like to thank the public for their continued support. We’re appealing for information following a burglary in Rye. The incident occurred on 25 December 2025 at a property on Fishmarket Road, Rye. It was reported that three males dressed in black forced entry and stole personal items before leaving the scene prior to police arrival. We’re asking anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area between 9:30pm and 11:00pm, to get in touch.
