Protect Your Home this winter Burglary can have a big impact on your wellbeing and sense of safety. While we can’t be everywhere, you can take steps to help protect your home. Most burglars look for easy opportunities, like unlocked doors or open windows. A few simple actions and smart thinking can make all the difference. Top Tips: A few minutes spent securing your home can make all the difference.
Sheds / Garages / Outbuildings We urge all residents to keep their sheds, garages & outbuildings locked at all times, especially when not in use. They often contain valuable tools, bikes, or expensive equipment that are attractive targets for thieves. 👮♂️ Crime Prevention Tips: • Use robust security padlocks or deadlocks on doors, consider a surface mounted garage door lock. • Fit an alarm system, motion sensor lighting and/ or CCTV • Keep expensive items secured inside using lockable cabinets, ground anchors, or chains. • Consider trackers for high value machinery. • Avoid leaving tools or ladders outside - they can be used to gain access to your property. • Mark valuable items with your postcode using a UV pen or property marking system. DNA marking kits can be collected from Hastings or Battle Police stations free of charge. • Register valuable equipment at https://orlo.uk/wsg5o to help police return stolen items if recovered. Let’s work together to make our sheds, garages & outbuildings as difficult to access and unattractive to criminals as possible. See or hear anything suspicious, call 101, for crime in progress, call 999 immediately. Drink or Drug Driving? It’s NEVER worth it. ✅ Plan ahead, book a taxi or arrange a lift. Your choice. Your responsibility. Don’t risk it.
Despite additional resources being deployed over the Christmas and New Year period to tackle drink and drug driving, it is disappointing to report that seven individuals were taken into custody over the weekend for these offences. In total, 26 arrests were made, which included: Over the weekend, we’ve been out on our daily neighbourhood patrols, including across Braybrooke and St Leonards. It was great to see everyone enjoying the light snowfall, with walkers taking extra care on the icy, slippery paths. These regular patrols give us valuable opportunities to speak with residents and local businesses, stay updated on community concerns, and keep an eye on any developing issues. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and chat with us. We can only act on what we know, and when you share your concerns, it helps us respond quickly and effectively. If you see something, please tell us: For emergencies or a crime in progress, always call 999. Working together helps keep our community safer. If we know about a problem, we can deal with it.
We are now in the new year, and our officers continue daily and evening patrols, engaging with local businesses and supporting the night-time economy #WinterOfAction We emphasise the importance of reporting incidents immediately, and that’s exactly what’s happening. When you report quickly, we can act fast. Although theft reports have risen, this reflects stronger reporting and successful enforcement, not unchecked crime. Our patrols will continue, and we’ll keep working with partners to ensure everyone, whether living, shopping, or enjoying a night out in Hastings, feels safe and supported. We’re working closely with Hastings Borough Council and extend our thanks to John Bownas, Hastings Business Improvement District Manager, for his ongoing support. Finally, we’d like to thank the public for their continued support throughout 2025. Your cooperation and willingness to report incidents make a real difference, and together we can keep Hastings safe.
Speed checks aren’t just about catching drivers who are going too fast, they’re about helping people understand the dangers of speeding, especially on residential roads where families and children are nearby. When local residents raise speeding as a concern, your PCSOs do their best to respond. These checks often have a positive impact on driver behaviour and help make the area safer for everyone. While carrying out checks on Amherst Road over the weekend, we’re pleased to report that only one vehicle was found to be significantly exceeding the speed limit. Just to clarify: Police do not receive any money from speeding fines. Every penny goes directly to the Government, not to local police. Our priority is always road safety, not revenue. Speed checks are carried out to reduce collisions, save lives, and keep our communities safe.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed us at the Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA) Age-Friendly Coffee Morning yesterday! We joined other local organisations, including Cllr John Whittington the Community Safety Manager from HBC, for a great morning of conversation and community support. It was fantastic to meet everyone, listen to their experiences, and share advice on staying safe, from scam awareness to tips on protecting your home. Your stories about avoiding scams and overcoming challenges were inspiring! We look forward to seeing you again soon. 👉 For more info on HVA and their upcoming events, visit: Hastings Voluntary Action #WorkingTogether
