Dear residents, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is continuing work alongside partners including the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) and Report Fraud to raise awareness and provide advice around how to protect yourself online. The following information is to help you remain vigilant when using online sale sites such as eBay and Facebook Marketplace, and be aware of the dangers of private sales on platforms including Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram. There are also multiple risks associated with investment opportunities including cryptocurrency, trading schemes, and online mentorship programmes which are often promoted via social media and digital platforms.
It’s worth noting the below advice, and always report to Report Fraud if you think you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud: · Stop and think before clicking a link or scanning a QR code · Take time to research the offer or seller · Ensure the webpage you are using for payment is secure
