Over the past few months, Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) across Welwyn Hatfield have been working to tackle the issues that residents said were causing them the most concern. NPTs work alongside partners to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour ASB, theft, speeding and drug-related crime. They set local policing priorities every four months, providing a specific focus on the issues that residents have raised through surveys, alongside an analysis of data. Residents will see their dedicated team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to tackle the issues, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement. During the last period, the following priorities were addressed: Welwyn Hatfield North (Welwyn West, Welwyn East, Haldens, Sherrards, Handside, Peartree and Panshanger) Anti-social behaviour in Moors Walk, Panshanger (Op Brillo)Officers have been working proactively to address ASB involving young people in the Moors Walk area of Welwyn Garden City. Through consistent patrols, engagement, and investigative work, officers have identified over 20 young people involved in this behaviour.Working alongside key partner agencies, the team has focused on diverting those young people away from continued ASB and preventing further escalation. This intervention has included the use of Acceptable Behaviour Agreements (ABAs) and Community Protection Warning Notices, ensuring that clear expectations and boundaries are set while also offering support where appropriate. As a direct result of this targeted activity and partnership approach, the area has seen a significant decrease in ASB, improving the environment and giving reassurance for the local community.Drug issues in PeartreeOfficers have been working hard to develop actionable intelligence relating to ongoing drug activity in the Peartree area of Welwyn Garden City. This work remains active and ongoing, with the Neighbourhood Policing Team continuing to gather information, engage with the community, and build a clear picture of those involved. As a result of this developing intelligence, enforcement action is planned, targeting those suspected of supplying or facilitating drug-related activity within the area.Given the continued focus and the need to progress this work further, the Welwyn Hatfield North NPT Team will be extending this priority into the next priority period to ensure sustained disruption and improved community reassurance. The following priorities have been agreed for three months: Anti-social behaviour in Welwyn Garden City town centreDrug issues in Peartree (continued from last time)Whilst there will be a focus on the local priorities, officers will continue to respond to daily business as usual, as well as forcewide priorities and any emerging issues which require more immediate action. Alongside the NPT, Welwyn Hatfield is also policed by officers who respond to emergency calls, a team of detectives who investigate crimes such as burglary, robbery and assault, and specialist units who work to tackle issues such as acquisitive crime and domestic abuse. In addition, they can call on officers from central teams which work countywide. |
