Public Spaces Protection Order - now in place across Wakefield City Centre |
||
|
Dear Resident, We would like to tell you about the new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) which has been introduced covering Wakefield City Centre and the surrounding communities.
Amongst other opportunities the new restrictions, prohibitions and requirements will see improved opportunities to tackle aggressive begging, nuisance behaviour, public intoxication and the implementation of directions to leave. Any breaches may result in on the spot fines, being reported to attend at court or arrests.
Inspector Paul Fraser, Wakefield Central NPT said: “Over the last 18 months we have seen notable reductions in crime and ASB across the Wakefield Central cluster, including the City Centre. However, we are not ones to rest on our laurels, and we took this opportunity to not only update the current PSPO but to also future proof it. We have listened and learnt, understood the concerns of the public and then researched the most effective PSPOs from across the country. I am confident that this revised PSPO will further reduce instances of ASB by allowing us to target offenders and by using our professional discretion and judgement we will deliver on the expectations of the communities’ we police, ensuring Wakefield remains to be the safest City in the region.”
The new signs (pictured below) have been put in place this week in the restricted areas across the city centre, retail parks and surrounding communities.
