Good Morning Resident Thank you to everyone who raised concerns about speeding on Abbots Road. In response, officers carried out a high‑visibility speed operation today. 20+ vehicles were checked.1 driver—a very local resident—was recorded at 35mph in the 30mph zone and was dealt with by officers. Our aim is road safety, not catching people out. Visible, announced activity encourages drivers to slow down—which prevents collisions and protects pedestrians and other road users. Importantly, even with our high‑vis presence and advance publicity, we still detected an offence. That shows visibility does not prevent effective enforcement; it helps deter speeding and makes the road safer for everyone. Why we publicise and wear high‑visDeterrence works: If a post or a marked police presence makes someone slow down, that’s a success—fewer injuries and near‑misses.Transparency and reassurance: Letting residents know what we’re doing builds trust and encourages safer driving habits.Effectiveness: As last weeks and todays results show, we can still identify and deal with offences even when operations are publicised and officers are clearly visible. What’s nextWe’ll continue targeted checks at varied times (some publicised, some unannounced). We’ll keep working with partners to support sustained speed reduction on Abbots Road.Your reports help us decide where and when to deploy—please keep them coming. How you can helpPlease stick to 30mph on Abbots Road 20mph in the 20 area—especially around school and commuter times.Report regular problem times/locations to us via 101 or the online reporting portal. If you’re interested in Community Speed Watch, let us know—volunteers make a real difference.Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping Abbots Langley safe.
