I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Burglary "Spotters" seen in the area
Most burglaries are opportunistic but there is evidence that some burglars are using individuals as “spotters” to find vulnerable properties to break into. They may pose as delivery drivers or door-to-door callers offering services or delivering flyers or may be seen filming or observing homes from the street. Always report anything suspicious immediately by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency. There are a number of steps you can take:
Maintain a "lived-in" look: Use smart timers to turn lights and a radio on and off. Ask a trusted neighbour to collect post, clear flyers, move bins, and open/close curtains. Avoid posting holiday plans or photos on social media until you return. Enhance physical security: Install and use a visible, accredited burglar alarm system. Fit motion-activated security lights at the front and back of your property. Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked, even when you are home. Consider CCTV cameras, video doorbells, and robust locks. Be vigilant: Report any suspicious activity, people, or vehicles to the police immediately. Remove any unusual markings, stickers, or items left on your doorstep and check your neighbours' properties as well. More advice can be found here:

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
