🚲 Bicycle Crime Prevention – Top TipsHere are some effective ways to help prevent bike theft, based on Met Police guidance: Double-lock it – Use two quality locks, including at least one D-lock—thieves rarely carry multiple tools.Lock the lot – Secure the frame and both wheels to a fixed cycle stand.Secure positioning – Lock your bike close to the stand to minimise room for thieves to manoeuvre.Remove parts – Take removable items (wheels, lights, saddle) with you or use locking skewers.Park smart – Opt for well-lit, CCTV-covered, secure cycle parking.Register frame number – Use a national bike registration database (approved by Secured by Design).Security marking – Apply visible marking to deter thieves—security marked bikes are harder to sell.Home security matters – Treat home parking with the same care as on the street; avoid advertising your bike online.Verify ownership when buying – Always ask for proof of ownership and check against national databases.Report theft quickly – Report stolen bikes online with frame/database numbers and photos to speed recovery.
