Theft of Motor Vehicle - Ullswater Road

Dear Resident

At 04:30 on Tuesday 5th January we were called after the victim witnessing his car being driven away off his driveway, being stolen. Upon police arrival, the car was found on ULLSWATER ROAD near the junction of CONISTON CLOSE, facing in the direction of MALMES CROFT. Nobody was in the vehicle and it appeared it had been abandoned.

After reviewing CCTV and Ring Doorbell footage from the victim and neighbours, two (2) males can be seen on the victim's driveway walking around the vehicle, before using a device to boost the relay signal from the car keys inside the house, in order to unlock the vehicle without keys. One of the males has then got inside the car and driven off, with the other male then running alongside the car the length of CONISTON CLOSE. It is then believed that the driver has realised that the car had a black box with a tracker in it and have decamped on ULLSWATER ROAD. The suspects have then made off in the direction of MALMES CROFT.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
