In light of the cold weather over the coming few days to weeks, Please be mindful of leaving your cars unattended with keys in when de-icing the windscreen, we have reports of vehicles being stolen or attempted to be stolen in the Dacorum area. Tips to prevent vehicle crime: Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicleWhen parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices. If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.Do not leave keys in running vehicles.Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.
