Theft of Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

On Tuesday the 6th of January a theft of a vehicle occurred on Gadebridge Rd.

The vehicle was stolen via the keys being left inside whilst the vehicle was left running to de ice the windscreen.

Please ensure that you do not leave the engine running with keys in your vehicle to de ice as you are leaving it vulnerable to being stolen.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Do not leave the vehicle running with keys in cold weather.
