I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Good morning everyone, One of my roles as PCSO for Deptford is to check all of the crimes/offenses that have been reported. I do this frequently, so we are aware of what is occurring in our ward.
With this knowledge I would like to inform you about a few patterns I have seen since Christmas:
I have seen a few incidences of theft FROM motor vehicles, and theft OF motor vehicles. In some of these incidents cars have been left unlocked, or keys still in the car, or the car left with ignition running, and this has been taken advantage of. I have also noticed some burglaries; some where burglars have entered through windows left open, and others where they have been denied by chains or other security measures.
My message today is one of vigilance and double-checking. Before you leave the house or go to bed, double-check everything is as secure as possible. Consider what else could help keep your castle defended. CCTV doorbells, smart homes that monitor noise, chains on doors. Can arms fit through your letterbox, or fingers open ajar windows from outside? When it comes to cars, double-check you've locked it and pocketed your keys. Don't leave anything valuable inside your car.
As always, don't be scared: be aware. I wish you happiness and warmth in this biting cold.
