Good morning, Driver Weather Warning As of January 2026, many parts of the UK are experiencing severe icy road conditions and freezing temperatures following a major Arctic blast. Critical Driving Safety Tips Driving in these conditions is discouraged unless essential. If you must travel, follow these protocols: Increase Stopping Distance: Allow up to 10 times the normal distance between your vehicle and the one in front, as ice significantly reduces braking efficiency.Use High Gears: To prevent wheel spin, set off in second gear and maintain a higher gear than usual while moving.Smooth Controls: Avoid any sudden braking, acceleration, or sharp steering. If you begin to skid, ease off the accelerator and steer into the skid.Stay on Main Roads: Stick to gritted routes where possible. Note that grit is less effective when temperatures drop below -8°C.Preparation: Ensure windows and lights are completely clear of ice.
