With temperatures dropping to -2°C to -3°C overnight and into early morning, your Valentines SNT wants to share some important safety advice to protect you and your property during this cold snap:

Vehicle Security - This is Prime Time for Theft:

- Never leave your car running unattended while defrosting - it takes seconds for a thief to jump in and drive away

- Thieves KNOW people warm up their cars on freezing mornings. Always stay with your vehicle or use a spare key to lock it while it warms up

- Scrape your windows rather than leaving the engine running - it's safer and legal

Home Security in the Cold:

- Frozen mornings mean people rush and forget basics - double-check your doors and windows are locked before bed and when leaving home

- Don't leave tools, ladders, or equipment outside that could help burglars

- With darker mornings and evenings, use timer lights to make your home look occupied

Personal Safety on Icy Surfaces:

- Frozen pavements can be treacherous, especially in shaded areas. Watch your step and stay aware of your surroundings

- Icy conditions mean it's harder to move quickly if you feel unsafe - stick to well-lit, main routes when out early morning or evening

- Keep your phone accessible but focus on your footing first

 Watch Out for Each Other:

- Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during this cold spell

- Be wary of unexpected callers claiming to check pipes or offer "emergency" heating repairs - always verify ID before letting anyone in
