Stay Safe.... |
Dear Residents, The year 2026 welcomed us with snow and very cold weather. Your local officers remind you all how to stay safe in any weather conditions, stay informed by checking forecasts, have an emergency kit with essentials, and adapt your plans and clothing, like layering for cold or seeking shade in heat. Avoid unnecessary travel during severe conditions (storms, heavy snow, extreme heat) and know where to find shelter, whether it's a sturdy building or staying indoors to avoid wind, debris, or flooding. Always adjust driving for low visibility and slippery roads, and never use cooking appliances to heat your home.
General Preparedness Stay Informed: Monitor weather forecasts from reliable sources like the Met Office. Emergency Kit: Prepare supplies like water, non-perishable food, blankets, a first-aid kit, and a fully charged phone. Plan Ahead: Know evacuation routes and have a family communication plan. For Cold & Snow Dress in Layers: Wear moisture-wicking base, insulating middle, and waterproof outer layers, plus hats and gloves. Stay Home: If temperatures are extreme, stay indoors, keep your home warm (around 18°C), and block drafts. Travel Safely: Slow down, watch for ice, and carry a winter emergency kit in your car. Avoid Hazards: Don't use ovens or hobs to heat your home due to carbon monoxide risk.
