Road Safety, parking and Speeding. In particular, zig zag parking on Evington Road, junction blocking off this main strip, and speeding on Key streets including Evington Lane and Stoughton Drive North leading to Evington Road
St James Road – Community Safety UpdateAs part of our ongoing commitment to the residents of St James Road, work continues to improve the area and deter crime and antisocial behaviour. This month, PCSO Trantom has been working closely with the council and local residents to identify ownership of a plot of land located behind St James Road. By clarifying ownership, we can engage with all stakeholders and explore ways to enhance security and fencing at this location. The aim is to prevent groups from using the area in a manner that causes harassment, alarm, or distress to residents. This project will continue into January, where we plan to meet with residents and stakeholders to formulate a clear plan of action. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make St James Road a safer place for everyone.
South Highfields – Drug Reduction InitiativeAs part of our ongoing commitment to tackling drug dealing and drug use in the South Highfields area, officers have been engaging with the Dawn Centre throughout this month. The aim is to strengthen the working relationship between the Dawn Centre and the police to help reduce reports of drug dealing in and around the location. We understand that, due to the nature of the Dawn Centre, any reports of drug activity are often perceived to be linked to the centre itself. However, this is not always the case. In many instances, drug dealers are drawn to the area because of the vulnerabilities of those who attend the centre for support. Our efforts will continue into the coming months, working closely with staff and residents to reduce drug use and deter dealing from this location. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make South Highfields safer for everyone.
Stoneygate Ward – Road Safety UpdatePreviously, concerns were raised by residents about speeding vehicles and road safety within the Stoneygate Ward. In response, officers have been out with a speed gun at multiple locations over recent months to identify motorists exceeding the limit. Interestingly, the majority of these operations found no speeding vehicles, with all motorists observed complying with speed limits. To gain a clearer picture, data was requested for average speed figures across the beat. The results showed that all roads were recording averages below the legal speed limit. With this in mind, the priority of speeding vehicles has now been removed from the ward, and a fresh set of priorities will be introduced for 2026. However, this does not mean road safety is off the agenda. We have two operations planned in the coming months: If you have any concerns or suggestions about road safety, please get in touch or complete the survey link at the bottom of this newsletter.
Have Your Say – “You Said, We Did”As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, the Stoneygate Ward team focuses our efforts on what you, the community, tell us matters most. This forms the basis of our “You Said, We Did” approach. We gather this information through: Attached to this newsletter is a short survey, and we would greatly appreciate everyone taking the time to complete it. Your feedback helps us strengthen the data we already have and uncover hidden concerns that may not have been reported. Often, the issues that matter most to you might feel insignificant, and you may not want to burden the police—but these are exactly the things we want to hear about. Together, we can make Stoneygate Ward a safer and better place to live. 👉 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and tell us what matters most to you.
