Dangers of Drink and Drug Driving: Arrest Following Positive Cannabis Test |
||
|
Yesterday, local neighbourhood officers were conducting mobile patrols when they observed a vehicle displaying no insurance on Oldham Road. Upon engaging with the driver, he admitted to regularly consuming alcohol and using cannabis. Preliminary roadside tests were conducted, which returned a positive result for cannabis. The male was subsequently arrested, and a forensic blood sample was obtained in custody. Officers are now awaiting the results of the blood analysis. It is important to highlight the significant dangers associated with drink and drug driving. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs severely impairs judgement, reaction times, and coordination, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering the lives of all road users. Such behaviour is a serious offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988, and offenders can face severe penalties, including disqualification, fines, or imprisonment
