Hello All If you suspect trouble or see someone in trouble dial 999 immediately. It is never your fault if you become the victim of a crime… Thankfully Derbyshire is a safe place to live, and we work around the clock to keep it that way. However, there are things that we can all do to make a criminal’s life more difficult. We know the onus should not be on the victim to protect themselves, but it would be wrong of us not to share the following information with you. We hope you find this useful and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to tackle those who commit crimes. We hope you never need us, but we are here for you if you do. 💸 Stash your cash and valuables -
• Be aware of who is around you when you go to a cash machine. Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.
• Hide your wallet/purse and mobile phone in a secure pocket or bag.
• Don’t leave your bag or coat unattended.
• Only carry money that you need for that day or night. 📱 Immobilise your mobile -
• Keep small electrical items hidden.
• Keep a note of your phone number, sim card number and serial number (*#06# displays it) in a safe place.
• Register the serial numbers of your phone or other small electrical items at www.immobilise.com; this allows the police to instantly check the database and return your items if they catch the thief.
• Consider downloading apps such as ‘Find my iPhone’ in case you get separated from your device and ensure this is activated before you go out. 🚕 Have a safe journey home -
• Don’t accept lifts from strangers or people you don’t know very well.
• Ensure that any taxi you use is licensed.
• If an offer is made to you and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
