Water safety during the Festive Period |
Happy Boxing Day! Unfortunately there have been people in our force area that have come into difficulty when swimming in the sea and other open water spaces over the festive period. Ahead of the traditional boxing day dip - I wanted to check in and offer a quick guide on keeping yourself and others safe - 1 - Never swim alone. Always have a swimming buddy and stay within signs of a lifeguard. 2 - Know your limits. Don't push yourself too far. Cold water, strong currents and waves can exhaust you must faster than a heated pool. 3- Feet First! Never dive into water unless you are 100% sure of the depth and what is underneath. 4- For Parents and guardians; the 10/20 rule. Always scan the water every 10 seconds and be able to reach your child within 20 seconds.
Call for help immediately and ask for the coastguard on 999 if there are any issues in the water.
We hope you are enjoying some well needed rest and celebrate safely into 2026! See you soon! | ||
