#OpLimit â Keeping Roads Safe This Christmas With Christmas parties and festive celebrations in full swing, some people still make the dangerous choice to drive under the influence of drink or drugs. Itâs one of the most reckless decisions a person can make, risking lives, including their own. This festive season, our officers are stepping up patrols and carrying out targeted checks to crack down on drink and drug drivers. We will deal robustly with anyone caught breaking the law. Think you wonât get caught? Think again. Help us keep the roads safe: Your choices matter. Donât risk lives this Christmas.
Going out on New Years Eve? Have fun, and stay safe
Might be worth a go⌠The âDry January 2026 Challengeâ is your invitation to give alcohol a little holiday of its own, a full month off to put its feet up while you power through from January 1st to January 31st.
This annual wellbeing campaign encourages you to hit the âresetâ button, swap wine for water (or one of the many alcohol-free alternatives out there, gin, beer, you name it), and enjoy the perks: better sleep, sharper focus, more energy, and yes, extra money in your pocket.
Itâs a great way to start the year with a clear head, a healthier routine, and the smug satisfaction of maybe sticking to a resolution!
Taking part is simple: make your pledge, plan some fun alcoholâfree activities, stay hydrated, and lean on the supportive communities cheering you on.
Youâre not just giving your liver a wellâearned rest, youâre boosting your health and letting your wallet pile on the calories instead of you!
Despite our #OpLimit operation in Hastings on Saturday 20 December, which resulted in zero arrests for drink or drug driving, officers were unfortunately required to take enforcement action over the wider weekend period.
Across Hastings and Rother, five people were arrested for drink and drug driving offences. In addition, officers made a further 24 arrests for a range of offences, including:
We remain committed to keeping our communities safe, tackling offending, and taking robust action against those who put others at risk. Thank you to the public for your continued support and cooperation.
Our recent speed checks are a direct response to concerns raised by residents, and we want our community to know that we are listening. These checks arenât about issuing fines, theyâre about helping drivers understand the very real dangers that speeding poses, especially in builtâup neighbourhoods. Thatâs why we carried out a speed check on Filsham Road and The Ridge: to encourage safer driving and to help protect everyone who uses our local roads. As we head into the Christmas season, our priority is the safety of our communities. Letâs work together to make sure everyone gets home safely.
Drink and drug driving is never acceptable #OpLimit so on Saturday night the Roads Policing Team carried out checks in Hastings to ensure everyone was staying safe on our roads. Around 90 vehicles were stopped, and weâre pleased to report that not a single arrest was required. Ten drivers provided breath tests, with the highest reading being just 5 micrograms, well below the legal limit. No tickets were issued, and no vehicles were seized. Itâs encouraging to see so many people making responsible choices, especially at this time of year. Thank you to everyone who helped us keep the roads safe.
At our ward meeting on 16 December, we had a productive discussion with attending residents and local Councillors from the Gensing and Central St Leonards areas. We revisited several ongoing concerns, including the parking issues raised by both residents and Stagecoach regarding London Road, Kingâs Road, and Norman Road. East Sussex County Council have confirmed they will be reviewing these matters. Residents also fed back positively on the increased police presence in Warrior Gardens, noting a visible reduction in drugârelated activity and associated antisocial behaviour. We will continue to maintain targeted patrols to support community confidence and safety.
