Officers from the Smiths wood neighbourhood team are continuing to conduct proactive patrols and take preventative measures to tackle vehicle crime, across all Smiths wood, Kingshurst and Castle Bromwich.
Simple Steps to Keep Your Vehicle Safe – Keyless ignition owners should use a Faraday pouch for their fob. All drivers should consider a steering lock, park in well – lit visible areas, lock their vehicle, remove valuables, and ensure windows, sunroof, and wing mirrors are closed/ folded. Unfolded mirrors may signal an unlocked car to thieves.
What has been happening? Good news –
Whilst officers were on patrol parked up in a plain vehicle in Smiths wood. They saw a male riding an off-road bike and then push it into the entrance of a tower block. Officers entered the block and found the male waiting for the lift and seized the bike for no insurance and riding without a licence.
On the 18th of December officers made three arrests. One for domestic assault and another male for failing to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court for Stalking charges and a prolific shoplifter charged with two more thefts from a shop in our area. He was bailed to attend court soon.
Whilst officers were on patrol on 19th December a car was driving in front of them which came back to having had no tax since 2024. His response was “it had slipped his mind” it's funny how the rest of us manage to remember to tax our vehicles. This vehicle was subsequently seized and taken off the road.
On 21st December the team were in Jura Way and Mull Croft in Smiths Wood with the Youth Bus. Engaging with local kids and giving gifts that had been donated to the Youth Project. Our Sergeant and officers were knocking doors in the area, listening to people's concerns and signing residents up to our WM Now Neighbourhood Newsletters.
A prolific beggar who has been approaching and intimidating people by Morrison’s Supermarket has been arrested tonight by our officers. This male was given a Community Protection Warning in March 2025 and was then served a Community Protection Notice was served in September (which has the power of arrest attached to it if breached). The store has notified us of several breaches of the notice where he has continued to intimidate and hassle people for money. This is a good arrest to safeguard our local community.
Your local PCSO’s have helped a community beat surgery tonight in Elmwood Place in Smiths wood and have been out and about as normal patrolling Castle Bromwich, Smiths Wood and Kinghurst speaking to victims of crime and looking for CCTV opportunities to assist our investigating officers.
Lots to look forward to in the new year, we will be arranging our first Street watch Patrols with our volunteers. Please say hi to them if you see them out and about.
We will also be continuing with our Speed Watch group. Anyone wishing to get involved please email us at smithswood@westmidlands.police.uk or respond to this WM Now message.
