Birstall & Wanlip Round Up |

Welcome to the latest Birstall & Wanlip Round Up, Christmas is round the corner and the New Year beckons! Nonetheless, the Birstall & Wanlip Beat Team have been cracking on with bits and pieces around the villages.
Residential Burglaries
Over the past six months, the Riverside Ward experienced an increase in burglary-related incidents, with a total of 15 reported cases. Two of these were domestic burglaries where the suspect was known to the victim. In response, the Local Policing Team implemented a range of proactive measures, including increased high-visibility patrols, targeted operations, and enhanced community engagement. As a result of these efforts, recent burglary incidents have decreased significantly. Suspects have been arrested in connection with these offences and are currently being processed through the criminal justice system. Individuals have been charged, including one suspect linked to nine separate offences who has been remanded in custody. This has contributed to a marked reduction in reported burglaries across the area. Despite this progress, investigations remain ongoing, particularly concerning the most recent burglary at an address on Worcester Avenue. This incident has caused considerable concern among residents and remains a priority for the Local Policing Team. Patrols will continue in the area to provide reassurance and deter further criminal activity. We encourage all residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity promptly, and take appropriate steps to secure their properties. Community safety remains our highest priority, and we will continue working closely with residents to prevent crime and maintain confidence in local policing.
Antisocial Behaviour
Work has continued at Birstall North Services, a location that has historically experienced recurring issues of anti-social behaviour (ASB). These incidents tend to fluctuate in line with school terms, holiday periods, weather conditions, and the availability of alternative activities for young people. A core group of youths linked to this location has been identified. The Beat Team is actively working in partnership with onsite management, relevant agencies, and Cedars Academy where appropriate. The approach will involve robust but incremental action to address concerns effectively. It is important to stress that the intention is not to restrict or prohibit the use of the site by local youth. Rather, the aim is to introduce appropriate interventions that encourage responsible behaviour while maintaining access to the space. This strategy seeks to provide young people—often described as being in a ‘challenging age’—with opportunities to develop accountability and decision-making skills that will benefit them in later life. Failure to do so may result in continued police involvement in adulthood, where consequences will be far more serious. *** A SIGNIFICANT AREA IDENTIFIED AS EXACERBATED BY ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR HAS NOW BEEN SEALED OFF WITH A VIEW TO PREVENTING / MANAGING THE CURRENT ISSUES - BEAT TEAM AND AGENCIES WILL MONITOR EFFECT AND REACT APPROPRIATELY ***
Vehicle-related ASB
We have received multiple reports of vehicles engaging in anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the Birstall area. This includes incidents of car cruising and the misuse of e-scooters, which have raised concerns among residents and road users regarding safety and community impact. In response, officers have taken enforcement action under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, which allows for the issuing of warnings and, where necessary, the seizure of vehicles involved in careless or inconsiderate driving. These measures have been applied to deter repeat offences and reinforce the message that such behaviour will not be tolerated. The Local Policing Team continues to monitor identified hotspot locations through targeted patrols and intelligence-led activity. Our objective is to ensure that public spaces remain safe and accessible for all residents while addressing behaviours that undermine community confidence. We encourage members of the public to report any further incidents promptly via the appropriate channels.
