As the festive season is upon us, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This time of year, is wonderful for celebrations, but unfortunately, it also sees a slight rise in specific types of crime. Southall Local Police Teams are committed to keeping our community safe. Please take a few moments to review these simple, effective crime prevention tips to protect your home and your belongings during the holidays. Home Security: Keeping Your Gifts Safe Be Smart with Shopping: Don't leave newly purchased gifts or shopping bags visible in your car, especially in parking lots. Lock them in the boot (trunk) immediately. Packaging Patrol: After unwrapping, avoid leaving empty boxes for expensive items (like large screen TVs, gaming consoles, or high-end electronics) next to your bins. This advertises what new items are inside your home. Break down the boxes and take them to a recycling centre or put them out on collection day inside another, less conspicuous bag. Lighting is Key: Use timer switches for indoor lights to make your home appear occupied, even if you are out visiting friends or family. Secure Windows & Doors: Always double-check that all windows and doors are locked, including rear access points and garages/sheds, before leaving the house. Delivery Awareness: If you're expecting parcels, use a secure delivery point or ask a trusted neighbour to take them in. "Porch piracy" increases significantly at this time of year. Vehicle & Travel Security Lock Up: Always lock your vehicle, even when parked in your own driveway, and never leave the keys in the ignition or hidden nearby. Remove Valuables: Ensure all valuables, including sat-navs, charging cables, and even loose change, are removed from sight. Out of Town? If you are going away for a few days, consider asking a neighbour to park their car on your driveway occasionally to make it look less deserted. Staying Safe While Celebrating Be Alert at ATMs: Be aware of your surroundings when withdrawing cash for holiday spending. Watch Your Belongings: When at parties or public events, always keep your purse, wallet, and phone secure and close to you. Responsible Drinking: If you are planning to drink alcohol, please plan your journey home in advance. Never drink and drive. On behalf of everyone at Southall Local Police Teams, we hope these tips help you enjoy a safe and secure Christmas and New Year. We are proud to serve and protect our community. If you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, please do not hesitate to contact us. Emergency: 999 (If a crime is in progress or life is in danger) Non-Emergency: 101 (For all other police enquiries)
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
