Scams and fake websites.

As Christmas approaches, online scammers become more active, creating fake websites and adverts that look convincing and offer deals that seem too good to be true.

These sites often mimic trusted retailers, using professional‑looking logos, countdown timers and unrealistic discounts to pressure quick purchases.

When we’re busy or panic‑buying those last‑minute gifts for family and friends, it becomes much easier to overlook the warning signs.
A rushed click can lead to stolen bank details, undelivered items, or compromised personal information.

To stay safe this festive season:

Always buy from trusted retailers you know or have researched.

Look for secure website indicators such as https:// and a padlock symbol.

Be cautious of unrealistically low prices or websites with poor grammar or no contact details.

Avoid following links from unsolicited emails or social media adverts — go directly to the retailer’s official site.

A few extra seconds of checking can prevent a costly Christmas scam.
