Resident
This week our officers and PCSOs from Newport West Neighbourhood Policing Team have been conducting patrols and tackling issues highlighted by our communities. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update about what we have been doing in your area.
The team joined GoSafe and South Wales Fire & Rescue Service to conduct Operation Atal. Operation Atal is a speeding operation that involves identifying drivers travelling over the speed limit before officers stop the vehicle. Drivers are then given the choice between a speed education talk or points and a fine. This was conducted along Caerphilly Road, Bassaleg in the 20mph zone as this is an area identified as a speeding hotspot. As a result: ✅ A total of 651 vehicles checked. ✅ 21 vehicles stopped for speeding. ✅ 18 drivers provided with a speed education talk. ✅ 3 drivers reported for excessive speeding. ✅ 7 baby seats checked and secured safely. If you have any general enquiries around speeding, you can contact GoSafe by visiting their website.
Thank you for your support with these issues, your information helps us tackle issues and keep our communities safe. I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. | ||
