Good Afternoon, Please see the below update regarding our New Met for London Plan from your Neighbourhood Superintendent: The Met is launching the next phase of the New Met for London plan – and we are building on a mission that is working. We are driving down neighbourhood crime like phone-snatching and shoplifting by 15%, injuries from violence is at a 5-year low and we are arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals a month. Locally here in Merton we have also seen some real achievements including: We have reduced serious violence on our streets, specifically targeting gun and knife crime. This has resulted in a 35% drop in knife-enabled robberies in Merton this financial year.We have targeted crime & anti-social behaviour in our community. This has led to a 23% drop in Neighbourhood offences this financial year, making our communities safer. We have worked with partners to address retail & vehicle crime leading to a 26% drop in shoplifting offences and a 24% drop in vehicle crime across Merton this year. The New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will see us: Put you and Londoners across the city at the heart of precise community crime-fighting, investing more in our local neighbourhood crime-fighting teams, driving performance on the frontline and making sure you can influence where we focus our efforts.Harness the power of technology and data to make a profound shift in how we police London and Merton. Across the city the Met is looking at expanding the use of facial recognition technology and becoming even more precise in targeting the small number of offenders who cause the most harm, and the places and victims that suffer most.Build new partnerships and improve existing ones – whether with the public, private or the third sector – to achieve the best possible outcomes for you. As part of this commitment to listening to you, we hosted our Community Crime-Fighting event on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, where you told us your main priorities were: Increase police presence and visibility, specifically in areas with a nighttime economy and green spaces. Tackle dangerous riding and theft offences enabled by e-bikes and e-scooters.Reduce shoplifting by working with the local authority, retail businesses and security. Thanks to your input, we are now working hard to tackle these issues by: Launching Operation Martello to ensure that local officers have a visible presence in our town centres and hotspot areas, tackling violence against women and girls and reducing neighbourhood crimesTargeting the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters, taking in excess of 40 e-bikes/scooters off the streets and issuing the riders with fines Stepping up Operations Retail & Zoridon targeting habitual shoplifting offenders and disrupting organised criminality behind the selling of stolen goods. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and warmest wishes for the New Year. Superintendent Ian Cameron |
