Police and drugs dog visit Torquay pubs for pre-Christmas checks

Officers in Torquay conducted a Pubs Against Drugs operation across the town recently – and they had a special canine helper.

The team were joined by Devon & Cornwall Police’s passive drugs dog Skye, and members of the Force licensing team, at seven licensed locations across Torquay on Friday 12 December.

Inspector Rob Harvey explained: “Numerous stop searches took place along with drug-wipe testing in pub toilet areas. Three people were searched and quantities of both suspected cannabis and cocaine were recovered, with investigations now underway into those people.

“Thank you to everyone who spoke to officers during the operation, this was an extremely positive and collaborative operation contributing to safer nights out in Torquay.”

Police will continue to liaise with licensees and other pub staff to keep venues safe for the local community.  

Inspector Rob Harvey added: “We would like to reassure the public we will continue to make these kind of licensed premises visits on a regular basis and will not tolerate drug dealing.”
