I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A partial closure order has been secured for a property in Stevenage following reports of persistent anti-social behaviour and drug use.
The order was granted at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday 17 December) and prevents anyone except the named tenant from entering the flat in Harrow Court for three months.
Anyone who breaches the order faces arrest.
Neighbourhood Inspector Will Rogers-Overy said: “Following a county lines drugs operation in November, which resulted in the arrest of a man from one of the flats in connection with Class A drugs offences, we worked with Stevenage Borough Council to speak to other residents to understand the nature of the drug activity taking place in the block.
“From this data it became clear that other residents were being adversely affected by ASB and drug related crime linked to one of the flats and we took the decision to apply for a closure order while an investigation into the activity took place.
“Today the court decided to grant a partial closure order to allow the vulnerable tenant to remain in their home, while also providing some respite to residents who have suffered.
“I hope this sends a clear message to those intent on causing misery among local communities that this behaviour will not be tolerated and we will do all we can to prevent it.
“If you are experiencing similar behaviour in your neighbourhood, please continue to report it. Every call helps us build up the intelligence we need to take action.”
Councillor Tom Plater, Portfolio Holder for Stronger Communities said: “The safety of our community is of paramount importance to us, and I’d like to thank the residents who came forward and played a part in helping us secure this house closure.
Everyone has the right to feel safe in their homes and on our streets. This outcome shows what can be achieved when we work closely with our partners and the local community. By taking action against the small minority who cause harm, we are helping to reduce crime and make Stevenage a place where people feel safer to live, work and visit.”

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
